    Q What is a 1031?
    A 1031 is a number assigned to the Internal Revenue Code section that deals with tax deferred exchanges. It goes back as far as the 1920's.
     
    Q Why is it so popular?
    A The most important reason is to defer capital gains tax.
     
    Q How much time do I have?
    A You have 45 days from the day you close escrow to identify your replacement properties. Up to 3 possible acquisition properties may be identified. Replacement of any acquisition property must be completed within 180 days after close of escrow of relinquished property.
     
    Q What properties qualify for 1031?
    A Like for like properties.
